Eight historic preservation projects and two individuals received awards at Capital Area Preservation’s Sixteenth Annual Anthemion Awards Presentation on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. Anthemion Awards recognize outstanding dedication and commitment to excellence in historic preservation in Wake County. The name “Anthemion” was inspired by a classical design element seen on many Wake County buildings, including the State Capitol dome in Raleigh. The event took place at Caffé Luna, 136 E. Hargett Street, Raleigh. Approximately 125 people attended including Wake County Commission Vice-Chair Lynda Brown; Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker; Fuquay-Varina Mayor John Byrne; Zebulon Mayor Robert Matheny.
